Script identification

Servers have different ways of locating scripts. Normally the script should be in a directory specified for that purpose in the server's configuration files (see Section gif).

The script must also be configured to be executable. The way in which this is done varies between operating systems. Under UNIX, the execute permission bits must be set for the script using the chmod command. Under MS-DOS, the script must have the extension .EXE or .COM.

The GN server requires that scripts are explicitly identified as such in the menu description file of the directory in which they reside. The must be named with a .cgi extension and specified as type CGI in the menu description file (see Section gif).
