The IMG element

HTML provides the facility to embed in-line images in documents using the IMG element. Such images can be purely illustrative or can function as interactive elements themselves if used as the content of an anchor element. The syntax of the IMG element is:

      <IMG SRC="url" [ALT="description"] [ALIGN="spec"]  [ISMAP] >

The URL of the image file must be specified with the SRC attribute. All other attributes are optional.

The document is mainly of historical interest as obviously many of the sites mentioned have long since disappeared.
