Software installation and configuration

Virtually all the free software and some commercial software is available over the Net by anonymous FTP. The commercial software usually needs to be activated by obtaining a license key. Installing and configuring server software is discussed in Chapter gif.

Custom interfaces to other applications may have to be created using CGI scripts. Programming to this interface specification is covered in Chapter gif.

Although it is not strictly a server issue, Web administrators will probably also find themselves responsible for selecting and installing Web browsers for Web users at their site. Section gif discusses this.

The document is mainly of historical interest as obviously many of the sites mentioned have long since disappeared.
