Basic keywords

The basic keywords, shared with the Minnesota Gopher server, are as follows:

Name
Title of the item as it appears in the Gopher menu.
Type
The Gopher type of the item (listed in Table gif).
Path
The pathname to the item relative to the root data directory, with the first character of the type field prepended.
Host
The host-name of the server where the item is located.
Port
The port on which the server listens for requests.

Only the Name and Path keywords are compulsory. In many cases a Type field need not be explicitly included, as the GN server will infer the Gopher type from the prefix of the path field. A list of valid Gopher types is shown in the following table. The Host and Port values default to those of the server.
