CERN server access protection

The CERN server access protection mechanism is controlled by a number of files, including the server configuration file. User names and group names are defined in password files and group files respectively. These names are used in Access Control List (ACL) files and protection set-ups to restrict access to sets of documents. ACL files determine access to documents only in the directory in which the ACL files are themselves located. Protection set-ups can be defined in separate files or embedded in the server configuration file, and may be used to determine access to sets of documents, as specified by templates.

Note: this HTML document was generated in December 1994 directly from the LaTeX source files using LaTeX2HTML. It was formatted into our standard page layout using the Template Toolkit. The document is mainly of historical interest as obviously many of the sites mentioned have long since disappeared.
