NCSA Mosaic

NCSA Mosaic was a big hit from its inception, and is probably still the most widely used of all browsers. Versions are available for Apple Macintosh, Microsoft Windows and UNIX systems running the X Window System. The NCSA retains the copyright on Mosaic, and the current version is is 2.4, available by anonymous ftp:

ftp://ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu/Web/Mosaic/Unix/source/

Binaries are available for DEC Alpha (OSF/1), Ultrix, HP 9000/730, IBM RS/6000, SGI IRIX, Sun SPARCstations running Solaris or SunOS 4.1.3. (see README-binaries).

The released version of Windows Mosaic is a 32-bit application and will not work with Windows 3.1 without 32-bit extensions (which are freely available but can cause performance problems):

Some people still use an old beta version:
