ImageMagick

Written by John Cristy at E.I du Pont de Nemours & Company, this free but copyrighted image manipulation package consists of a number of separate programs: animation, convert, display, mogrify, import and montage. It is mainly used to convert between different image file formats, and can read PostScript, Macintosh PICT format, JPEG and TIFF format files if it is built with additional software. The source can be compiled on UNIX using the imake program, and will also compile on VMS. The source code is available from:

The document is mainly of historical interest as obviously many of the sites mentioned have long since disappeared.
