Routine maintenance

There are a number of routine tasks that need to be carried out regularly once the server is up and running, many of which overlap with those of normal system and network administration:

  • taking regular backups
  • replying to users' queries
  • generating indexes for searchable Web documents

Finally, documents within the server hierarchy must of course be kept up to date, which can be quite a major undertaking. It is advisable to institute a procedure whereby they are inspected at regular intervals, as recommended in Chapter gif.

The document is mainly of historical interest as obviously many of the sites mentioned have long since disappeared.
